La casa di Nonno Cacacashe, Sora (FR)
Casa tipica, centro storico, Sora (FR)
oil on canvas,
60 x 40 cm
painted on location, May 1984
Collection of Errico Paradisi, Sora (FR), Italy
Here you have an example of an early work. I painted this in the middle of the day, while most people were having their afternoon siesta. The contrast of the bright sunlight on the building as compared to the shadows created, I feel make this scene work as an oil painting. That copper water container, (gonga), just to the right of the green door is typical of this region in Italy, known as "La Ciociaria". Upon finishing this painting I was told that this house was once occupied by an uncle of my mother, who was the grandfather of my cousin, Errico Paradisi. I then decided to gift this work to him, who has had it hanging in a most suitable frame in his living ever since. Sorry about the reflections, (me taking picture), as the work is behind glass.

St. Joris Cafe Scene #2, The Hague, Ned.
St. Joris Cafe #2, The Hague, Ned.
pastel/ink on paper
sketched on location, April 2005
165 euro, (195 frame and pas-par-tout)
When a subject merits it, a painter usually makes more than one art work from it. As in this case, I believe I have made about 10 works from this scene up till now. Mostly sketches on paper, however I once made a 40 x 50 oil painting which is now in a private collection somewhere in West Virginia, USA. Today I hung 12 art works in the PC Internet Cafe (Koningsplein), which is just across the street from this scene, 5 works are dedicated to the St. Joris.

St. Joris Cafe Scene #1, The Hague, Ned.
St. Joris Cafe Scene #1
Ink, pastel on coarse brown paper
24 x 35 cm
sketched on location, April 2005
SOLD
Today you are viewing a work made sometime ago, coming from my Dry Paintings from The Lowlands project. Am lucky to have such a picturesque scene, just blocks away from where I live. For me, the people sitting enjoying a brew and taking in the sun are what makes this scene attractive.
Have been suffering from a skin inflection called St. Anthony's Fire, (wond roos in Dutch) which I caught three years ago, and am now having a recurrence of it! Thus have been in no condition to go out painting since last week.

Portrait study of Titi
Soft pastel on drawing paper
50 x 60 cm
drawen direct from the model, Fri 22/02/08
125 euro, (185 inc. pas-par-tout and frame)
As most of you already know, I am posting on this blog works that do not fall under the Wet Paintings project. Almost every Friday morning I organize a life model drawing/painting session in my studio. I like the directness of pastel drawing, especially on this type of support, white paper. Too many corrections and you might as well throw it out.

San Sebastiano, Isola Del Liri, Frosinone
oil pastel, soft pastel and ink on colored board.
28 x 35 cm
made on location Sept. 1988
private collection, The Hague
This work was made shortly after my first visit to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. His influence is no doubt present in this work and the other 9 works made at the time. I was visiting with my uncle and aunt who had a house just about one kilometer down the road in this beautiful mountainous valley, located south of Rome.
